Decompression is a word used to reduce pressure in an area. There are many techniques and devices available that attempt to reduce pressure on the spine and it's nerve roots.
We have a special treatment table for disc bulges and other pressures on the nerve root. The table is called a "flexion-distraction" table. The table flexes, or bends at the waist allowing a gentle separate the back part of the compressed vertebrae which allows a disc bulge to get smaller and take pressure off of the nerve.
This technique also works well for "Facet Syndrome." This is a condition where the backs of the vertebare are too close together. When a person sits a while, these areas compress and when the person tries to stand up, they often have a hard time straightening up. It can take some manuveuring and effort to stand up straight. After a few seconds or minutes they are OK and are able to function.
